Wanting an easy and delicious classic snack? Create an awesome experience for your kiddos by making homemade stovetop popcorn!
If I had to pick a favorite snack growing up, It was hands down popcorn. I’d down a whole bag of popcorn myself (right before getting a belly ache since I was a 7 year old downing an entire X-treme Butter Flavor microwaved bag of popcorn). I loved getting those variety popcorn tins at Christmas time, kettle corn at the fair, and oh boy did I love going to the movie theatre. Did anyone else get the bucket that you could bring back and get refilled at discount?!

Why we ONLY Eat Homemade Stovetop Popcorn
With the exception of buying a bag of kettle corn from the farmers market twice a year, I ONLY eat homemade stovetop popcorn when my family wants popcorn. This is for a few reasons:
- We (basically) do not have a microwave. It’s buried out in the garage because we do not use it due to how it actually MODIFIES your food when cooking it. Microwaves are shown to have a negative impact on your health and the nutrition of your food.
- You can use clean oils and not the ones that cause inflammation. Instead of using inflammatory oils (canola, sunflower, vegetable, etc.) I’d opt for olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil. I have yet to try ghee or lard but those are also great options!
- No “butter flavoring” here! You can use your own real butter, salt, or other toppings to spice it up as you like!
- Organic corn – Corn is one of the most highly contaminated crops out there. This is an opportunity to use organic kernels (or your own!) to make your popcorn
- The overall experience. This is so fun for kids to be a part of and see. Get them involved and make it a fun experience!

Tips to Keep in Mind
If you want buttered popcorn, put some butter on the warmer while your oil is heating up in your saucepan
Be mindful not to let your kernels burn! Make sure the oil is fully heated before adding your kernels and also be sure to keep the pot moving once they start popping!

What you need
Corn Kernels – We like to use organic non-GMO sprouted kernels
Oil – Opt for either olive oil, avocado, coconut, ghee, or even lard!
Salt – Celtic Sea Salt or Redmonds Salt are two wonderful options
Butter Optional!
Large saucepan (pot) for popping!

How to Make Homemade Stovetop Popcorn
Add your oil to a medium saucepan and heat over high heat.

Once the oil is heated, add your kernels and cover with a lid. If your oil is heated enough, they should start popping pretty soon after being added to the oil.

Shake the pot back and forth on the burner so the kernels do not burn. Once you no longer hear popping, remove from heat.
Top with salt or anything else you would like and enjoy!

Great idea! I tried this and accidentally let it cook a little longer than i should have and i really liked the crispy taste. Makes the recipe fool proof!
